Marmaris – Bozburun – Datça – Marmaris

Seven nights along the peninsula that separates two seas. The route leaves the marinas of Marmaris behind within the first hour and stays in quiet water for the rest of the week — fishing villages, ruined fortresses and the almond groves of Datça.

The voyage

The route experience

The first anchorage is usually Serçe Limanı, a narrow natural harbour that has sheltered sailors for more than a thousand years. An 11th-century merchant ship — the Glass Wreck, now displayed in Bodrum’s Museum of Underwater Archaeology — was excavated from this very bay. The water is clear enough to understand why divers keep returning.

From Serçe the route rounds the cape to Bozukkale, where the walls of ancient Loryma still stand above the anchorage, then continues to Bozburun — a small town that builds more wooden gulets than anywhere else on this coast. There is a fair chance the boat you are sailing on was launched here.

Crossing to the Datça peninsula, the landscape opens up: dry hills, almond orchards and, at the very tip, Knidos. The city once held Praxiteles’ Aphrodite, the most celebrated statue of the ancient world, and was home to the astronomer Eudoxus, who mapped the stars from these headlands. You can walk the theatre and the twin harbours before dinner on deck.

The return leg follows the Datça shore back to Marmaris, with swim stops chosen to the day’s wind.

Planning notes

This is a sample itinerary rather than a fixed daily schedule. The captain may change the order of stops according to weather, sea conditions, berth availability and the needs of the group.
